What If Story: Basic Line System Concept

Recently, basic income has been attracting attention around the world. Reasons for its attention include elimination of income disparity, response to changes in labor, ease of program implementation, improvement of individual self-determination, and economic revitalization. In this video, I would like to talk about the basic line system as an alternative to basic income. This basic line system is an in-kind version of basic income. This basic line system provides people all over the world with basic necessities such as food and clothing, medical care and education. These are provided by a robot that is given to each person, a distribution system that is deployed on a global scale, and a fully autonomous and automated production system. The basic line system improves autonomously at each layer. Moreover, the system is optimized for each individual. In other words, the improvement of the overall system level, the improvement of each system component level, and the improvement of the optimization viewpoint of each individual level are executed daily. For example, improvements in the variations of services and products provided by the basic line system, improvements in coordination between systems that make the system more efficient overall, improvements in the quality of services and products such as the design of new drugs and clothing provided, and educational content. From a human point of view, the future system will operate with a sustainable energy production system that can be said to be infinite. In addition, the materials used in each system are fully automated and provided by sustainable production systems. The final interface visible to the user is the robot. This robot receives supplies from the production system and provides housework, education, health management, and medical services. Please answer the following questions about the world in which this basic line system exists.

  • What do you think humans are doing in this world?
  • What do you think education is like in the world?
  • Is this a world of total equality?
  • Do you think there is no war in this world and the world is peaceful?
  • Given the same standard of care, do you think life expectancy in developed countries is now higher than it is today?
  • What do you think will happen in the world if there is a cap on what this basic line system can offer, on services?
  • How far do you think this basic line system can be realized?
  • In addition to technical issues, what do you think are the challenges in realizing the basic line system?
The basic line system may be an exaggerated example, but I feel that our world is approaching it little by little. And when that quasi-basic line system reaches a certain level, we may be compelled to consider the previous question.
